Hi Ray and water01,
I also can not work out why site ranking and topsite board rankings are different.
In Admin I can only set 1 of page in, page out or page views. As you know users can alter the ranking at the top of the topsites board page.
I would guess if you select that which differs to what Admin has set it may not match.
A user has suggested maybe the time zones may play a part as all is sitting on a New Zealand site and users can be anywhere up to 24 hours behind.
They also suggested this could play a part each week when the week rolls over and NZ gains anywhere up to a days head start.
I honestly have no idea regarding the above but I am sure the user would like feedback from you smarter people
I will put it back on page views as someone above has asked and lets see how that now pans out on the new https server
Cheers
Jenny

This topsites is extremely slow to load, that's why I removed it from my site. Even clicking people's sites that have the counter are slow to fully load, as the browser is waiting on the button.
When I look at the network info in my browser when I go to Ray's site, for example, it says the button took nearly 8 seconds to load.

Jenny, thanks for switching to Page Views.
All, my site is http, not https. I’ve changed nothing. I have no explanation why my site is slow to load for some users. It’s quick for me. And Cumulus Sites loads quickly too but not all banners load.

Your site is https : https://www.cheadlehulmeweather.co.uk/ and it is secure.
Cumulus Weather Topsites also has https : https://cumulussites.net/ and is secure.
When using https, the only banners that do not display by default are those from sites that are http only = non-secure.
Kindest Regards,

How is that possible? Maybe topsites is forcing something but I can assure you if you click on the link in my sig it’s plain old http.BeaumarisWX wrote: ↑Fri 05 Apr 2024 7:51 pm Hi Ray,

Not for me Ray, it's HTTPS. It's got a Let's Encrypt certificate...RayProudfoot wrote: ↑Fri 05 Apr 2024 9:41 pm How is that possible? Maybe topsites is forcing something but I can assure you if you click on the link in my sig it’s plain old http.

I think your browser itself or a browser add-on has ”https anywhere” or similar setting enabled. It is a feature that redirects you to https whenever server supports it regardless of the link being plain http or not.mcrossley wrote: ↑Fri 05 Apr 2024 9:49 pmNot for me Ray, it's HTTPS. Mark & SamiS, all this is way beyond my understanding. I’ve never got to grips with this internet stuff. I’m just a weather fan.
Wouldn’t I have to negotiate a deal with HostPresto to gain https status? I can assure you I haven’t. Clicking on my banner takes me to my website and if you click in the address bar it says “Not secure”.

Just using bog standard Edge on my phone, there is no option to enable anything like that. I thought all modern browsers preferred https nowadays
Perhaps they have enabled it for all their clients? After all, it costs them nothing other than a bit of setup time.

I’ve manually typed https://cheadlehulmeweather.co.uk and it returned my home page so I think you’re right Mark. HostPresto appear to have placed my site on a secure address. Good for them. Saved me some dough!

And so they should, it's free but has to be updated every 3 months. They didn't do that for me though, they were charging me £30 a year until I did some digging.RayProudfoot wrote: ↑Fri 05 Apr 2024 10:18 pm HostPresto appear to have placed my site on a secure address. Given I didn’t ask for it I’d expect it to continue until my next payment is due. I did ask them to confirm they were happy with ftp uploads and they said yes. But I never enquired about https as it’s just a website, not a bank.

You shouldn't have to. It comes free with all of their hosting packages.
https has got nothing to do with banks?!RayProudfoot wrote: ↑Fri 05 Apr 2024 10:28 pm But I never enquired about https as it’s just a website, not a bank.
