@Jenny
I don't feel I lack imagination but others may beg to differ ;). I was however noting the warning
If you change the code, it might not work
and since I don't have access to the code for the button itself I was not sure how easily it could be changed nor how the data fields would respond to a different graphic.

I also prefer to maintain the look and feel of my site and the existing button doesn't sit well with that.

If you want visitors to vote by clicking on the button, then a button in the footer will not be seen by visitors to many sites where the footer may not be visible without further scrolling of the page(s).

I will do some experimenting with the button graphic. In the meantime I have just resized it.

All I would put on the button is;
Cumulus topsites
Rank with the sunburst graphic
and
something to indicate that clicking the graphic will actually to something - i.e. vote - which is missing from the present graphic.

Hi BCJKiwi,
We are not ignoring you, playing with ideas.
The simplest way around this is to have 2 buttons. One for the side menu and one as a banner as it is. It will be a matter of whether the template will do as we want without us messing up the coding :)
Different size buttons should not be a problem but too many options in that first email sent out may be for the user.
However we could use the navigation Menu to add more options plus the code to go with them.
I will be back at you when we have some answers :)
Cheers

Hi jenny,
In my OP I asked if it would be possible to have an alternate button. I was not thinking of an adjustable button. So we are in tune when you suggest

There is no rush, the reduced size is working OK for now. The other change I have made (apart from the size) is to add target="_blank" as it is my preference to open a new browser tab/session when calling external sites.
So, FYI the line in the saratoga menubar.php is;

Code: Select all

<li><a href="http://cumulussites.net/" target="_blank"><img src="http://cumulussites.net/button.php?u=username" alt="Cumulus Top Weather Sites" border="0" width="105%" /></a></li>

If I was prepared to put it in the footer I would have done so.
Ok, that's fine by me! :D

Yep my way of thinking is we make some different size buttons to meet the templates of our members sites.
Away from the default one these will probably have to be made individually when requested from what I see, depending on the members ability to change the code.
Of course you realise BCJkiwi, personally made buttons could cost you a fortune so you better start saving :lol:

Jenny,
I just sent you guys an email.
Anyhow, as it said in the email, I'm having trouble editing my banner link and it won't accept my IP instead of a hostname.
Any ideas?

Cheers!

I also tried but to no avail.
Sorry I have no idea. I will ask the button maker tomorrow what he thinks. It is 1.00am here and while normal people go to bed a lot earlier I have been watching tennis.
Lets hope Andy Murray can pull it off tomorrow night :)

I am sure someone will have your answer in here. I will message one of the smarter ones :)
Cheers
Jenny

Good on ya Jen!

Love your website btw. It's been years since I've been to Wairoa, though I was in Napier a couple of months back

All written in basic htm as thats all I know and with a few pinched scripts :)
We are under the HB Health Board now so half of Wairoa seems to frequent Hastings every week :)
Its a pain in reality though as 2 hours down and 2 hours back. Our services in Wairoa are decreasing rapidly. They tell me it is called 'Cut Backs' !!
