Internet setup problems

Post by Squibman »

Davis Vantage VUE using USB Logger. Windosw XP Pro Pentium 4 3gb memory.
The consule talks to the computer OK, no probelms there now.
I have made a sub-directory in FTP Surfer called 'weather' within my website and uploaded the following files:-
weatherstyle.css
wz_jsgraphics.js
CumulusRealtime.swf
Dbimages (folder and files)
Within folder 'weather' created another forder 'images' and copied picture.jpq to this file. I haven't used any quotes and have checked spelling etc.

Within Cumulus, file, web update, I just get 'connection timeout'
In the ftp folder 'weather' I don't see any index file.
When I click on 'weather' in my website "www.medwayyachtclub.com/weather" I get the error message 'HTTP 403 forbidden'. I assume this is because there is no index file in 'weather'.
Within Cumulus Status, Error I get FTP Connect Error, Error Code 500 followed by FTP Connect Timeout wihich points to something that I am inputing wrongly.
I have tried to solve my problems via this forum but have now run out of ideas and would welcome some help suggestions etc. Help.........................Roger.

A 'connection timeout' error suggests that you haven't configured the ftp server name correctly. Are you using exactly the same settings as in 'FTP Surfer'? If you turn on ftp logging, the ftplog.txt file may give some clues.

Hi Steve, That's what I think the problem is but this gives me a problem because I didn't set up the hosting it was done by another member who has since left the club.
I look after the website and update the clubs website on a regular basis and have no problems when using Serif Weblus to manage the website it uplaods through FTP Surfer (Whisper technology Ltd) with no problems.
FTP Profile:-
Name: Medway Yacht Club
Address: www.medwayyachtclub.com
Server-Type: Auto-Detect
User Profile: User Defined
User Name: medway2
Password: xxxxxxxxx ( I do have this and checked that it is input correctly)
Explore From: Login-Folder
Server Port: 21

I don't expect you to give personnal help but hopefully someone on the fotum might be able to help me.

Could a solution be to start with another hosting??

We purchased this Vantage VUE over a year ago now and it would be nice to have it on the internet at last for all to veiw............ Roger

It depends on what the problem is; you might have the same issue with other hosting. Have you turned on ftp logging?

I will have to go through the clubs files tomorrow to see if I can find anything relating to hosting of our website. I think it was once with Active 24 but with so many of these being swallowed up by componies like Talktalk who know who we are wiyh now.

No, it's not much help, is it? It looks like it has successfully logged in though. It looks like some sort of firewall issue. Try setting 'use active ftp mode'.

Hi Steve, I have had a look through the paperwork/invoices for our domain and the only ref I came across was 213.188.134.176
So I used that as the host name and the Status error messages stopped.
I then clicked on Files, Web Update and got the following report:-
Logging in to 213.188.134.176
Changing directory to http://medwayyachtclub.com/weather
Uploading standard files
Sending html pages
Changing directory to images
Sending graph files
Logging out

Is this what I should be expecting??

In FTP Server, it has now copied .png and .htm files to the route directory 'medwayyachtclub.com' but nothing to the 'weather' folder.

Still confused anyone out there with further ideas for me to try????

It looks like you've configured the directory incorrectly. This has to be something that an ftp server understands, and you've given it an http URL, which it can't handle. Try putting just 'weather' for the directory.
