Could you please install this new build (636):

http://www.nybbles.co.uk/downloads/beta ... sSetup.exe

and turn on the debug log each time you start.

Thanks,
Steve

As soon as you see the bogus rain rate, send me the debug.log file, please. Well, actually, wait at least 5 minutes, it doesn't get flushed to disk immediately.

It's very odd. It is a rounding error, of sorts, but I'm wondering if it's actually a bug in Delphi or your CPU even. Out of interest, what sort of CPU do you have?

It's subtracting 3.33070850372314 from 3.33070850372314 (yes, the same number), and getting 0.00070850372314 (approx), as if the first number had been rounding to 3.33. Now I know all about the problems of floating point arithmetic etc, but I don't see how that one works at all. It did the same calculation a couple of minutes earlier and got zero.

HI Steve, Thanks for coming back to me yes, it does look very strange, the CPU is a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ and it is a One Core Processor.

There's a bug in my debugging code  - I was actually printing the same variable twice. So I guess that the first value really was rounded to 3.33, but I don't know what's doing that. Does this always happen just after starting Cumulus?

OK- got it. It think it happens when you stop and start up again within a few minutes, so the data that initialises the array that's used to calculate the rain rate comes from the log file, where of course it has been rounded. Fix on the way...

It might have been a bit easier to track down knowing that it always happens just after startup :(

Yes Sorry about that Steve, I was not sure if it was happening after startup or not but it looks as if it is doing it just after start up. I have just had a look at the rain graph and it looks very stange indeed here it is
Rain Graph.JPG
Now it has got 0.04 in/hr at 15:21 on the first page

I will look forward to the update, many thanks for you help in solving the problem, hopefully it will solve it.
