Build 961 - Only one decimal place for rain records

Post by RayProudfoot »

Steve,

Build 961. The new webtags you have included for rainfall in the current month and year only show data to one decimal place whereas on the today and records pages they are shown to two.

Would it be possible for you to extend it to two for all rainfall records please? I'm recording rainfall in inches.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Cut&paste error :)

I have a set of standard formatting functions that take into account the units being used; I've used the temperature format for (nearly) all of the new tags...

I'll fix it in the next build, if BT ever give me enough bandwidth to do anything sensible.

Good man, thanks. BT Infinity is available down here for another £4/month. I haven't jumped yet. I don't suppose they're offering it up there as it could be the answer to all your problems. That would just leave us then! ;)

One other tiny request. All my dates are shown with two digits for the day part. Like 01 May 2010. I don't think this is a user configurable item. I'd just like to display 1 May 2010. Can you assist?
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

At some point I'm going to do user-configurable formats for all of the date and time web tags.

I don't think it would be good to change the default as it may mess up some users scripts. But I like the idea of it being user configurable.

Perhaps the answer Paul would be to store the full date values but allow the user to format how they appear on web pages. That's how it's done with Microsoft Access and probably other similar applications that use dates.

Would that be okay for your scripts?

Ray, Cheshire.

Hi Ray,

To be honest, my scripts are quite simple and they possibly won't be affected (but it is niggling in the back of my mind that there is a script somewhere that may suffer), and I'm sure I could fix any issues. However, users have copied scripts from all over the place and it may have a knock-on effect if formats are changed by default.

One script I'm thinking of is the PHP Saratoga Weather script that produces my thermometer gauge. Without looking, I'm not sure how it would cope.

Is that not the same as the user-configurable formats that I'm proposing?

It is, from my experience of your work Steve, you have never changed the format of an existing variable for exactly my reason.

Hope your broadband behaves soon!

Hi Steve and Paul,

Your proposal is probably fine Steve. I don't know anything about scripts and even less about web pages so I can't really comment with any degree of confidence. I place my trust in you Obi-Wan. ;)
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.
