I have an eye test at 11:30 am and they have told me to bring sun glasses for driving after the appointment, and nothing to do with the eclipse. Fingers-crossed, and hoping I can still see...

Enjoy,
Paul

You're really in great position to watch the eclipse Paul! Congrats! From your house. Ooohhh... What a Lucky Man he was :)

And don't mind the weather. I was in the north of France in 1999 for the full eclipse and beside that it was a total madhouse (hundreds of people on a 5 tent farm camp site) it was spectacular. It was heavily clouded and it was raining. It was a mud pool.

But I vividly remember the moment of the eclipse where, even with the grey clouds, it was possible to see the shadow approach through the clouds and as it fell over us I imagine to hear some kind of Wooosh... and then it was silent. Real silence. Only the rain fell in the darker grey world. Then a bunch of would be druids broke the magic and started drumming and singing songs from a fake forgotten religion. But still I felt as if the pressure from the sky was greater inside than outside the eclipse. After a minute or two another Wooosh... and the light grey returned, the druids fell silent.

That was the eclipse I did not see but which I felt in my mind, on my skin and in my ears. Especially the first ten seconds.

I wish everybody in North America a great experience.
In 2026 it will be in Spain. God that will be a true madhouse I am sure.
Hans

Clear skies for eastern Canada! Enjoy the experience Paul. I observed the long total eclipse of 30 June 1973 onboard a ship moored off Mauritania. Over 6 mins of totality. You’ll remember it for the rest of your lives. :D
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

NE Ohio - some high clouds but promising. We are in the path of totality.

Just got back from the Optometrist and after drops and can't see anything outside without sunglasses... but should clear up in the next hour os so, just in time...
Had some good blue sky over the past 90 minutes but not as clear at the moment but hopefully it will improve.
I wish I still had my B-L Sunrecorder and be able to watch with near second-by-second changes, but my UV and solar sensor will have to do. Looking forward to the graphs in CumulusMX.

Enjoy,
Paul

I was in Cornwall for the '99 eclipse, on top of a hill that gave views virtually from the channel to the Atlantic, along with hundreds of other people. It was full cloud cover, but just as totality approached a few gaps appeared and we got to see the spectacle, albeit through a bit of very thin cloud. Never to be forgotten. We could see the shadow race towards us across the sea.

I'm envious of you Paul.

Hi Guy,
Looks like Hambden, OH is south of us on the opposite side of the totality path and Lake Erie.

Perfect blue sky but very difficult to take pictures from my phone. The special glasses from the Optometrist work great, and didn't realize how small the sun actually is with using them compared to the full glare of the sun. I can see a bit of the moon blocking but another hour for maximum from our location.

Enjoy,
Paul

Paul, if your camera has video capability set it up to record the drop in light. It will be dramatic. The TV coverage is useless. No shots of the ground as the shadow approached.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Nothing visible on the webcam, which is updated once a minute, but at 35 minutes from start there is about 40% moon coverage for us and I can see the direction the moon is moving and what part of the sun won't be covered as we are not in total coverage. I didn't think I'd get this excited over it, but the good sunshine we are blessed with has brightened things a lot.

Enjoy,
Paul

@paul: but you will have 99.4% coverage so that's not bad

Just checking in again.. yes a lot more covered than I'd expected. We're about 85% into it and I expect only a slight sliver of sun may be visible or less. This is where we are now https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/ ... o=20240408

Just shared our glasses with dog walkers by our house and they said it made their day.

Enjoy,
Paul
