Need help adjusting crazy yearly rainfall totals

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

The totals for each month seems correct now but Its still says 60 inches on my front page unless it takes time to reflect.

So every day it shows some insane rainfall does this mean i have to edit each one ?

So confused...have no idea were all this ridiculous rainfall totals came from.
Start with Cumulus, what is it showing for the annual rainfall total now?

Have you had a day rollover since editing the daily values?

That's odd because I'm pretty sure Cumulus calculates the annual figure by adding up the daily values. I'll check the code later when I get home.

Your screen shot above shows you editing the monthly log file as well, that is a bit of a task! You really don't need to edit the counter value unless you have some software that uses it, just the "total so far".

Hi Mark, Oh i have not! I am remoteing into my home pc The only thing i did was edit the montly totals which now reflect 3.59 inches instead of the insanity of 27 inches it had before. i am actually kinda nervous doing anyting else. The yearly totals have not changed but maybe it will after a cumulus restart? I have not touched what i circled were it says counter. Sorry for the dumb question how can i reboot and start cumulus? Can you take me through the steps please.

At start-up Cumulus goes through your day file and adds up the value for each day this year (and this month), this is where the values come from.

So, if the day file is correct for every day, then the year-to-date total should be correct as well. If it isn't then it indicates you still have a problem in your day file.

In your log file, near the start you will see messages like...

Code: Select all

GetRainFallTotals: Getting rain totals, rain season start =
GetRainFallTotals: Today =
GetRainFallTotals: Rainthismonth from dayfile:
GetRainFallTotals: Rainthisyear from dayfile:

You said the error was in January, so use the built-in: Data logs > Dayfile to view all the days in January and find the days with erroneous readings in the Total rainfall column and edit to values you think they should be.

Once finished, restart Cumulus to recalculate the annual rainfall again.

I will go through January -April and update and correct each day that has wrong data. I am using a Cocorahs station that is very close to me. And then reboot.

Please don’t this time reboot by unplugging the power. Use commands

sudo systemctl stop cumulusmx
sudo reboot

to do it safely from ssh or console. The first one is only used if you are running CumulusMX as a service.

Edit. And actually you don’t need to reboot the whole system, you can also just start CMX again after stopping it.
