Have managed to get my site up and running. Thanks for the assistance so far.I have been looking at the realtime gauges being discussed on the forum.
As a learning experiment I would like to try and include these on my site. I have read the readme file included with the download and the entries on the Wiki site. I am still unclear on some of the exact editing required to various files, ("cumulusrealtime.html" "index.htm" "weatherstyle.css" etc) does anyone have an example of the relevant files which could be previewed to see exactly how the lines are edited. I notice from some of the other sites that the line which starts "Welcome to Home." has been changed to show some of the users locality details. I have managed to get this to work for myself but each time the site updates the line returns to "Welcome to Home." Any theories on what I am doing wrong?
Apologies if these are really obvious questions, it is my first attempt at web site creation so am a real beginner. The Wiki site is really helpful especially the page detailing how the cumulus.ini file is constructed. Have learnt a great deal from that one.
Thanks
Mark

Mark, this should explain this problemmalex wrote:.... I have managed to get this to work for myself but each time the site updates the line returns to "Welcome to Home." Any theories on what I am doing wrong?

Regarding CumulusRealtime -- have a look at this post as a starting point https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2177
Don't worry about weatherstyle.css for the moment -- that is a Stylesheet and it controls the colouring and design of your site aspects of your pages. Again, some reading here on the basics of Stylesheets -- http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Css
So you have a fair bit of reading ahead -- however please come back with questions if you need further help

Another useful read would be the Cumulus help file. The station settings screen help will tell you about setting the text that comes after "Welcome to".

Thanks To everyone for their assistance.
I have managed to get the realtime link from my webpage to display the realtime gauges. Unfortunately it stops at the loading data stage. The realtime.txt file is located in my Public_html directory. could this be the cause of the problem?
my webpage address is
http://www.bishopton.localweatherview.com

Your <realtimeURL> is wrong in CumulusRealtime.xml
You have it as
http://bishopton.localweatherview.com/h ... altime.txt
It should be
http://bishopton.localweatherview.com/realtime.txt
It's the web address a viewer would see, not you as an FTP uploader

David
Thanks for your patient assistance. I have edited the url in the .xml file as you suggest it now reads <realtimeURL>http://bishopton.localweatherview.com/r ... ealtimeURL>
The link from the Weather view web page is entitled "Realtime" and this appears to work perfectly bringing up the live gauges unfortunately it still stalls at the loading data prompt. With "bishopton.localweatherview.com please wait" as the heading on the page
I have edited the site title to be <title>bishopton.localweatherview.com</title> in both the .xml & the .html files. Could this be causing the problem?
I have also tried adjusting the interval to 10 secs in the .xml file as this seems to have been a problem for some other users, however this did not make any difference. The realtime.txt file appears to be updating from cumulus with appropriate data.
Any further suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Re: Another Newbies question- Web Page Customisation.
You changed your url in the last post (added www.)
It seems to be a mapping thing.
http://bishopton.localweatherview.com/C ... ltime.html Now WORKS (wait 10s for first update)
http://www.bishopton.localweatherview.c ... ltime.html Does NOT work (wait forever for data)

Mark
The URL to your webiste is http://bishopton.localweatherview.com
There are no www's as it is a sub-domain of localweatherview.com
As Beteljuice says, http://bishopton.localweatherview.com/C ... ltime.html works fine now

But http://www.bishopton.localweatherview.com/ does work. And if both with and without the www are required to work, then Silverlight will need a clientaccesspolicy.xml file creating, or people going to the www version of the site will be disappointed.daj wrote:The URL to your webiste is http://bishopton.localweatherview.com

Yes, I added aliases when creating the subdomains just as a safety measure but far better to refer to it correctly.steve wrote:But http://www.bishopton.localweatherview.com/ does work....
(it's my domain, part of the hosting package).
Good point re: clientaccesspolicy.xml
