Weatherlink software to Cumulus?

Post by terabitz »

I know this seems a bit odd, but I was wondering - is it possible for me to view data in Cumulus off of a Vantage Pro2 that has the old console with buttons attached to my computer via a USB logger, while sending the data to weatherlink.com via the Weatherlink software?

I just want to be able to send my station to weatherlink.com but also continue to use CumulusMX for the webpages that it sends to my website. When I tried selecting both Weatherlink Cloud WLL/WLC and Weatherlink Cloud VP2 as a station type, Cumulus says it sees my station as online, but no data loads in and everything is 0s. :(

Thanks!

I use both, but not at the same time. My normal running configuration is cumulus, but once every few days (maximum nine) I shut down cumulus and run weather link just long enough to get the backlog data loaded.

So far as I know you can't run both at once.
My cumulus generated weather site is at http://pastoll.info/weather

You cannot run them both locally, but you could run MX getting its data from weatherlink.com. It isn't ideal as it only updates once every 5 or 1 minutes depending on your subscription. That is the other catch, you need a paid subscription to use weatherlink.com as your data source.

I do the same, shut down Cumulus1 on the 1st and 15th of each month to run WLPC for a while, then shut down and restart CU. Ten-minute interval gives about 17 days of data in the logger.

There was a way with Virtual PC program, which some still use https://www.weatherstations.co.uk/virtual_vp.htm. I like many others was not able to use it on a newer Windows PC.

As Mark says, the Cloud source is an option to continue WeatherlinkPC and also CumulusMX. Or add a Weatherlink Live!

Enjoy,
Paul

I have a pro subscription for Weatherlink and when I set Cumulus to get the data that way, everything shows as 0s in Cumulus while running Weatherlink. I've let it sit for as much as two hours and Cumulus still doesn't populate data.

Switch on debug and data logging then post the log file. It could be you're the first VP2 user to try the cloud station type - I do not have a VP2 uploading to test against.

I've attached logs with both WLC/WLL as a station option and VP2 as a station option. Debugging and data logging are enabled.

It seems the program is not reading my API key despite having them set?

Hi,
It is late where Mark is so he may not see your log files until the morning. But I will make one comment from the log file:

Code: Select all

2024-02-11 16:06:29.065 Command line: "C:\Users\tvtun\Documents\CumulusMXDist3278\CumulusMX\CumulusMX.exe"
2024-02-11 16:11:14.643 Command line: "C:\Users\tvtun\Documents\CumulusMXDist3278\CumulusMX\CumulusMX.exe"
It is highly recommended to place CumulusMx in a root folder as explained here https://www.cumuluswiki.org/a/MX_on_Win ... e_download

If you get a chance do a new install as suggested.

Enjoy,
Paul

Thanks for the suggestion, Paul.

I downloaded CumulusMX as a zip file and just extracted it - I didn't use an installer. Anytime I update, I just grab the contents from the new version's zip files and overwrite. Will I need to do something different or can I just move the folder to a directory like C:\Cumulus or C:\CumulusMX ?

Best,
Zach

Hi,
Yes, you can move the full CumulusMX to C:\ so C:\CumulusMX
I run more than one CMX so also have C:\CumulusMXwll and C:\CumulusMXtest so each is independent.

Enjoy,
Paul

Did that and even installed it as a service. For now, I switched off Weatherlink and went back to direct COM in CumulusMX. Hope there's a way for me to be able to use my USB data logger and Weatherlink software in tandem with CMX. A physical WLL box is out of budget for the time :(

Thanks,
Zach

I have found the problem with the WL Cloud for VP2 type stations (one line needed adding to cater for the newer record format! :bash: )

It will need a new release to fix this of course.

Following up, I downloaded the new version Wednesday morning and when I went to go change the data source to WeatherLink, everything inside Cumulus was still showing 0s. MXDiag file attached.

@Mark,
I wanted to try this again with latest build.
I have made it work with Station type Davis Weatherlink Cloud (WLL/WLC) and that is on a Weatherlink.com uploading by a WLL
API Key V2
Use for AirLink, EnviroMonitor, WeatherLink Live, WLIP, WLNAS, and VC.
API Key v2: oxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxd
API Secret: yxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxf
I have tried with Station type Davis Weatherlink Cloud (VP2) and this is on a separate Weatherlink.com and uploading by an IP logger (WiFiLogger).
API Token v1
Use for WeatherLink data loggers (WeatherLinkIP, WeatherLinkUSB, and WeatherLinkSER), and Vantage Connect.
API Token v1: Bxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx2
However CMX Station type for Cloud (VP2) only accepts APIv2 key and secret in Settings.

Is there a way to use CMX with a Davis Cloud station from WL.com site uploading by WeatherlinkIP/USB/SER that do not have the APIv2?

Enjoy,
Paul
