Rasperry Pi Bullseye

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Rasperry Pi Bullseye

Post by The Dalek Hunter »

The new Raspberry Pi Os Bullseye is out.

Will CMX run on it?

If yes do I have to install a new image and copy CMX back to it or can I do something like this?

Well Bullseye works for me. I must have too much time on my hands at the moment.
The new OS, mono, CMX and CUtils installed on the RPi 4 and once the usual copy of data, .ini files and reports were transferred and the system restarted all worked just fine.
The attached screen shot shows the current situation.

Raspberry Pi strongly recommend installing a brand new image on a clean SD card and copying data across (also re-install apps like CumulusMX)

Not seen a 64 bit debian but there is a 64 bit Ubuntu (server and desktop) for selected models (eg pi 4 with 4GB +)

I have to update my comments. I made the update headless, everything worked fine.

But after reading the "raspberrypi.com" article I wanted to see the desktop improvements so plugged in the monitor and low and behold there was no desktop, just terminal.

Tried raspi-config but unable to close "raspi-config" properly it did not save the configuration changes. So for now only terminal mode. :bash: :bash:

I'll update on as I move on.

As far as Bullseye goes - everything seems fine two days in. I don't like the new "Mutter" window manager at all, but just found out you can revert it to "Openbox" so now the windows look and act as they did before.

My problem with it is that Matchbox Keyboard (a virtual keyboard) doesn't work properly on it. I don't use it much, but I have a wireless mouse next to my TV remote and sometimes use it and Matchbox Keyboard from the recliner - can't do that for now.

I tried to find quickly how to revert but could not find it. Could you either explain or point to a procedure?

Change "/etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/desktop.conf"

window_manager=mutter to window_manager=openbox-lxde-pi

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i -e 's/mutter/openbox-lxde-pi/' /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/desktop.conf

Sorry for delay - if you use the Raspberry Pi Imager sw select Other General Purpose Operating System then choose Ubuntu you are offered the choice of 64 bit versions.
