Re: Raspberrypi 3 Just Released
I've just upgraded my weather system to a Banana Pi Pro with 120GB SATA SSD. Impressed so far - seems more responsive than the Raspberry Pi 2. It also has in-built wireless networking but not using that as I rely on the 'hard wired' network connection to my NAS / MySQL server for data storage and backups.
But.... I will have to try the RPi 3 I guess!!

Re: Raspberrypi 3 Just Released
Phil, the Pi3 still lacks a SATA port, so maybe a Banana Pi is still the best bet - you don't need the SATA to USB adapter for the SSD. I bet the Pi3 is still putting all IO through that single USB 2 bus.

Re: Raspberrypi 3 Just Released
You are probably right Mark. I will stick with the BananaPi for the web/weather system. It wasn't expensive - about £35 for the BPi Pro and another £35 for the 120 GB SSD (and £10 for the cable ).
Looking at installing a mail server onto it also

Re: Raspberrypi 3 Just Released
I am using 2 Banana Pi here. One as a Linux All in one Server with a SATA HD and the second one already replaced my QNAP NAS running OpenMediaVault with a 2 TB 2,5" HD.
On both Banana's, a 2A power supply is enough (Yes, also the 2 TB HD does not have a additional power supply)
I like the SATA feature more then anything else. Also looking forward for the new BananaPi M3 with 2 Ghz and 2GB Mem and SATA again.
Also the Power consumption is less then the RaspberryPi2. (with 2TB HD around ---> PWR in: 1490.93 mW which is less the Raspi without HD.
Finally, I don't think I need to buy the new RaspberryPi because only for the Weather station, my old one is fast enough and comparing to the new BananaPi M3 ......
