iPhone site for Cumulus

Post by daj »

I have been working on a little project to make the Cumulus data iPhone friendly on the web. To that end I have created an add-on page to Cumulus which is specifically designed for iPhone or iPod Touch screens.

If you visit my website using an iPhone/iPod it will automatically detect this and switch to the compatible version. However given that the iPhone has a full blown web browser built in it actually works really well on the standard site so I enhanced it a little. If you visit with your iPhone in portrait mode (normal orientation) you get the optimised version. If you visit in landscape (wide) mode you get the full website.

Please feel free to have a look at my website to see it in action. http://www.grantownweather.co.uk Obviously if you use your computer you will see my normal site!

I would appreciate any comments you have on how it can be enhanced. I am also more than happy to share the code with you (it is one html page, one style sheet and a short piece of javascript) -- all very simple to incorporate into your own site.

If there is enough interest I will post all the details here. I have attached a picture of three screens from the iPhone for the curious.

I am also working on a Blackberry optimized version if anyone is interested.

It only converts to the iPhone site if you are on an iPhone!

If you want to force it -- http://www.grantownweather.co.uk/iphone but I have no idea what it will look like on a Nokia.

Is Javacript supported/enabled on Opera for Symbian?

The links are actually Javascript to hide and show page elements. The whole iPhone interface is one page to save on bandwidth and downloading.

Great Work!
