Cumulus Hanging

Post by Bobbien333 »

Everything was good for a long time until this morning. I looked and it didn't update. So, I closed it down, went to restart and it just hangs. I restarted the computer and tried again, same thing.
Went to the cumulus site and seen there was an update, so I updated it. I installed the update and it still hangs.
I don't know what else to do. I cleaned everything out on the computer temp, and all.
This is a pick of what just sits there.

You may well have the same problem that a number of Fine Offset users have; the station just stops responding. I'm afraid I have no idea why it happens, or whether it's anything to do with Cumulus (but it seems to happen with other software too). A reset should get it going again.

You should only have needed to reset the station, that doesn't affect any Cumulus settings at all.

Hello.

I had the same problem here. The program gives a error for the station readings.
Maybe it is possible that the software can restart by itself for example every 24 hours, then the connection is remade and will work again.

Not the same problem; you have a different type of station.
The program gives a error for the station readings.
What's the exact error message?

There's the option to restart if data stops; but I can't tell whether that will help in your situation until I know what your problem is.

Hello.

The program gives the red error light but i can't find any error reason. I found the restart option you mentioned and activated it.

When i know more about the error message i come back to it.

Ricardo.

What error is shown when you click on the red error light?

I already restarted the program. When the error occurs again i can check the error reason.

It is doing it again. I reset, and this time it didn't work. I changed the batteries and now it is working again. Didn't know if this would help or not.

Was that the batteries in the console, or in the transmitter, Bobbie?

For what it's worth, the hanging occurred once in the past 4 months to my Weatherwise, WS1090 (Fine Offset). After systematically troubleshooting from the software/PC end, the problem didn't clear until after pulling and reinstalling the batteries in the console. Glad I didn't have to climb the pole to get to the transmitter batteries.

My Fine Offset appeared to do the same thing, after running for ages. It's on 24/7, using an old, dedicated laptop. So, after seeing this thread, I thought I would try something slightly different - a PC restart but also removed the USB cable briefly whilst it was rebooting. On reloading Cumulus (done as a Startup prog) the missing readings were automatically downloaded and processed and all seems OK, without any reset.
Note: No Red light error was shown, Cumulus was just stuck with a blank downloading data window.

If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I may be able to see why it was apparently unable to download the data from the station.
