Will a serial to USB converter work with the WMR928NX on Cumulus? If so can you recommend one. The PC I want to connect it to only has USB. Windows 7 64 bit.
Many thanks.
Cheers, Laurie.

Should work with any Serial to USB converter. I have tried two different models with Windows 7 without any difficulty. Windows 7 found a driver on its own for both without my intervention with a driver file.

I have a USB to serial adaptor which has the Prolific 2303 chip set and I cannot get it to work with my WMR-928NX. Has anyone got one of these to work? if so how. I have tried various drivers and compatibility modes, Windows 7 seems to recognise it it appears in device manager as working but there is no data appearing in Cumulus. I have tried various port settings but nothing works. I have proved that the WMR is OK by connecting to old laptop with serial port but the PC I want to use it on only has USB. Help please.
Cheers, Laurie.

I assume you've set the correct serial port number in Cumulus. If you open the debug window, see if you are getting any data at all from the station - it might be being discarded because of CRC errors or similar. Later builds of Cumulus don't have a debug window, turn on the debug log instead.

Thank you for reply. Yes I have the COM port set correctly. This is what appears on log. :- Cumulus debug log
0000.000 : **** Logging Disabled

0007.769 : **** Logging Enabled

0038.813 : 26/02/2010 09:41:00 Minute timer 41
0098.171 : 26/02/2010 09:42:00 Minute timer 42

It would appear that no data is being received.

I am thinking my adapter could be faulty, it was a cheap one from ebay. However there are conflicting reports as to wether this chip set will work with 7. The drivers from the Prolific web site certainly don't. The only drivers I have got to install are from the Maplin web site. I really need to know of an adapter which will definitely work with Win 7 64 bit.

Many thanks.
Cheers, Laurie.

Try this:

Uninstall your current driver. Reboot. Plug in your USB device and see if Windows 7 finds a driver on its own. If it does - the device will most likely work.

Win 7 does not find a driver, it directs me to Prolific's driver download but it does not install. The only driver which I have found which will install is a Vista driver from Maplin. Device manager then says "device working properly" but no data is received from station.

Cumulus assumes 9600 bps, 8-N-1, if that's any help.
