Re: Hydreon RG-11 results

HI as rainfall can be so localised The manual site has all the gauges within a 1M radius (RG11 and Manual Gauge only 40cm apart) so they should be comparable. I surmise that as raindrops accumulate into bigger drops they are spaced further apart and might miss the small diamater of the RG altogether...

Re: Hydreon RG-11 results

I would not take too much notice of the earlier part of the week - things were still quite experimental then but I put what there was anyway. The manual site is about 10M from the Cumulus site and closer to ground level so there could be differences. The performance in heavy rain is worrying though....

Re: RG11 Accuracy

Hi
Last night we had 44mm rain according to my manual gauge (the Cumulus Bucket said 40.6mm and the local weather station 15 miles away had 38mm) but both the rg11's were just over 15mm - not very promising.

Re: Hydreon double tips

Hi

BIG MISTAKE - the resistor I used was 800ohms NOT 800K - apologies to anyone trying the wrong one.

Re: Hydreon double tips

Hi Alan
I realise it's not a proper filter but it seems to work but a current limiter series resistor might be a good idea.

Re: Hydreon double tips

Hi
Your wish is my command
RTS/CTS result (same Cap/res config)
Apart from a starting OFF the debug looks OK (Again very heavy hosepipe rain)

Re: Hydreon double tips

Hi
I have some old female 9 pin leads so I guess I could tack one on when I get a moment.

RG11 Accuracy

Hi It has just started to rain a little and it was noticeable that on dry concrete the drops were spaced quite well apart (it's also stopped me from mowing the grass). The RG11 diameter is only about 60mm so I wonder if it is 'finding the holes between the drops'. What would happen if the RG is set ...

Re: Hydreon double tips

Hi Lars

I said it was complicated
I made a mistake in the drawing - reverse the positions of the resistor / capacitor - so resistor from +ve to DTR

Re: Hydreon double tips

Hi Relays are expected to work for about 1,000,000 cycles so with average rain (5mm per day) that would be about 20,000 cycles (an ON and an OFF) so even if the bounce spark degraded the relay life to 20% that's still about 10years of life by which time there may be something else to think about. An...

Re: Hydreon double tips

Hi Bruce

As RS232 ports are becoming quite rare IMHO stick with the adapter. Having said that if my mod is curing relay bounce then there seems to be no reason that an rs232 would react differently.

Re: Hydreon double tips

Hi Steve
It took a while as the test programme had locked the port - rebooted
The test was done with rainfall at over 1M/hour - should be enough
Looks OK
