Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

I'll keep an eye on your blog WesternWeather. A couple of things I was thinking of today. About aspirating it, I tried this with the flower-pot tray mod on my remote unit up on the tower and ran 12 volts to it. I used a fan from a computer CPU to do the job. Unfortunately it only lasted a bit less t...

Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

Solar panel a good idea Twitter; hadn't thought of that' I'll probably put a square of white plastic roof shutter board on mine.
I don't think you really need to aspirate a Stevenson Screen though. I've never heard of that?
Although they do aspirate the small covers on the remote high up WX stations.

Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

Yes could be an idea Twitter but my remote gauge is on the tower with the wind sensors and the conventional rain gauge is on a bracket on the top of the fence. Actually I'm going to mount the box on the top of the concrete fence post. It has a couple of convenient 10mm bolts at the top. I did tell t...

Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

Yes, it's certainly robust enough but I guess you'd have to anchor it down in strong winds. The winds we had a couple of weeks ago were even blowing over full wheelie bins!

I think the most important thing is to cover it with thick yacht varnish to stop it rotting.

STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

Hi folks; I guess like me a lot of you use Stevenson Screens to keep your thermometers and remote sensors in. Mine has now started to fall apart. I made it a couple of decades ago from louvred panels but it's now past repair. Looking around for a new manufactured one I discovered that they are ridic...

Re: Pressure on colsole reading wrong since battery change.

All sorted now Steve; I'd forgotten about having to reset the console after the battery change; last set lasted 18 months and still had some life left in them. The Calibration setting didn't change to zero this time; think it was my eyes LOL. Have an opticians appointment on Wednesday, perhaps I nee...

Pressure on colsole reading wrong since battery change.

Hi all, Changed the batteries in the sensor unit and console of the WH1080 yesterday and everything appeared to be OK except the pressure reading on the console (set to REL and HPA) appeared to be 8mb low. It was easy to correct by using offset in the calibration page but it always read (before the ...

Re: WH1080 rain sensor

Update... Corrected dayfile.txt and all appears to be working. The calibration factor of 1.3 for Rainfall appears to be almost spot on for today. Rain gauge 8.1mm, 1080 remote rain box, and after correction factor applied in Cumulus, reads 8.2 (that's near enough for me). Thanks for you help Mark an...

Re: WH1080 rain sensor

Thanks Steve, I take it I only need to edit the 15th item (Total Rain for the day). Max rain rate and max rain rate time shouldn't matter.
I assume the other monthly and yearly files take all their totals from the dayfile.txt.

Re: WH1080 rain sensor

Success. Just had a shower and it's registered on the console. I have a suspicion that resoldering the contacts on the reed board with a Weller TCP soldering iron (which works with an AC current to the heating element from an AC transformer) may have demagnetised the reed switch being in close proxi...

Re: WH1080 rain sensor

Well a modicum of success. :) Removed rain box and checked it out on the bench. Re-soldered connections on the reed board just in case. Moving see-saw activated the reed OK and I checked continuity of lead, also OK. Replaced the rain box and wired back the sensors on the roof after a squirt of Servi...

Re: WH1080 rain sensor

Thanks Mark; likely to be the reed switch then as I've had problems with those before.

Will have it to bits again when I get some spare time and try and fix it. :)

Thanks,

Mike.

WH1080 rain sensor

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone knows what happens to the rain gauge sensor when it stops working or reads less than half. It started reading really low a couple of weeks ago and now has stopped altogether. I dismantled it and checked for the normal things, spiders, seizures, etc. but nothing wrong...
