Re: Weather Underground Gold star stations
I noticed the gold star badge on my station last weekend. I wondered what is going on with that. There is another station about a mile from me that was off WU for a month or so. It just came back on line on September 17th and hasn't earned a gold star yet. It must take more than five days to earn on...

Re: PWS catch up
One thing I figured out after a recent power failure is that the default setting on the Davis VP2 logger is 30 minutes. I had never bothered to change it in Weather Link. Now it is set to five minutes to match Cumulus. I know, it's covered in the installation post. I just forgot to go back and set it.

Re: Davis VP2 setup
I recently wanted to change my Davis VP2 logging interval to five minutes from the default value of 30. I had noticed during a power failure that my Davis was only logging every30 minutes. I found this could not be changed from the console. I had blown away Weatherlink on the PC where I used to run ...

Re: Anyone running CumulusMX on RPi2 Ubuntu 16.04?
The only problem I saw was the fact that Ubuntu runs like a pig on the Pi. I think there's a reason why they use Jessie..and I prefer Jessie Lite actually. When I have some free time (and that looks like a month down the road) I am going to try switching my RP3 to Jessie Lite. I don't need the desk...

Re: looking for a backup script
Google Drive, Dropbox and One Drive all synch local copies to their servers in the background. That work's fine on a PC where you typically have a large drive these days. I use Google Drive because they give you 15 GB free. That wouldn't work well on the RP since a local copy would soon fill up an S...

Re: looking for a backup script
This is jank's script.

I think it could be modified to use Google Drive as the target.

Re: FTP login
I think you have to stop CumulusMX before editing cumulus.ini. The web interface will work with it running but many changes require a stop and restart. I found this is true for uploading any extra files.

Re: Cumulus 1 and SDR radio
SDR stands for software defined radio. The short description is that a variable RF oscillator is used to mix RF signals down to a frequencies that a PC sound card can handle. Then the tuning, filtering, detection, etc. can be handled digitally in the PC. If you go to websdr.org you can tune and list...

Re: Cumulus 1 and SDR radio
That is an interesting concept. Do you know what kind of encoding FO uses for the transmitted data? I wonder if there would be a market for a "headless" weather station consisting of a sensor array and a USB dongle? I hardly need a console for my Davis. If I want to see the values I can ju...

Re: Best remote access software for the Raspberry Pi
Just to be clear my question was concerning access over the Internet and not inside the same local network. I use FireSSH for that and it works fine. There other other good solutions like PuTTY also. To answer Steve's earlier question I believe Dataplicity on supports a terminal session on the RP. I...

Best remote access software for the Raspberry Pi
I was curious what software folks are using for accessing their Raspberry Pi over the Internet. The two I see mentioned are Weaved and Dataplicity. I tried Dataplicity for no particular reason and I wasn't crazy about it. It didn't like it when I tried to copy and paste commands into the terminal wi...

Re: Splitting a FO signal
I have never heard of splitting a USB device connection between two computers, which is what you are wanting to do. I think once you get your FO station working on the RP3 there would be no reason to go back. I moved my Davis station from a similar old Dell laptop running Windows XP to a RP3 almost ...

Re: Preparing for the Worst...Upgrade Old FO Station
Grrrrr. I may just spring for the Davis Vantage Vue Pro 2 unit. Get it over with. I have a $250 gift card to Amazon already so that will take the sting out of it (just a little). Thanks Scott I bought the Davis VP2 wireless in late 2014 to replace an Ambient WS1090. I found the best price was from ...
