Re: Sun on light

Can you paste the contents of your SRsunshine.dat file when the sun is shining? The IsSunny setting is taken directly from that.

Re: WS-2902

Not to sound mean, but I doubt this will happen as presently this website may go away so why have Cumulus/Cumulus MX? Both served their purpose well, and it was awesome that Steve made these programs and currently has this website, but I think we are at the point where Old Yeller has been tied up t...

Re: Yet Another Dayfile Reader (PHP)

That WMO figure is not relevant for Davis sensors as it refers to direct radiation. The Davis sensor measures direct and diffuse radiation, hence the difficulty in determining whether the suns shining or not, requiring a complex formula.

Sun Threshold does affect the count of sunshine hours.

Re: Suggested web site hosting offerings

Before I decided it was a good idea to buy a dedicated server, I hosted the forum, the Cumulus user web sites and various other things on Dreamhost shared hosting (for multiple domains). They weren’t perfect, they had their problems, but I always felt that when there was a problem they were doing th...

Re: FTP

I agree that logging weather data using UTC and then converting for display is a good idea, it’s how Cumulus would have done it if I had been writing it as an application for use by others. When I had the luxury of starting again and not having to be compatible with Cumulus 1, it’s what I did with C...

Re: VP2 status

Had to replace my anemometer but I calculated it had done over a billion rotations. Lost count of the number of temperature sensors I went through, and Dave Wheeler on Fair Isle had a similar story, but that seems to be down to a harsh coastal location (Davis more or less agreed that their system wa...

Re: Massive Huge Humogous Giant Ginormous Titanic sized MxDiags file

Looks like the connection to the console was lost (the port was closed) so every time Cumulus tried to read data from it, an error was returned and logged. Cumulus does not handle the connection being lost well.

Re: Massive Huge Humogous Giant Ginormous Titanic sized MxDiags file

Possibly logging failed ftp uploads of realtimegauges.txt, as I’ve mentioned many times in the forum, although that would have caused the same issue previously, assuming you were using the latest version of MX. Nonetheless, some may have found your hyperbole amusing. Makes a change from me complaini...

It’s optional. An option we won’t be taking.

Re: Site going down.

Should have power tomorrow, assuming a mooring is available. Will try to find time to have another look at the server. Dinner booked at a Japanese restaurant, a first for both of us.

Re: Site going down.

Updating of dayfile.txt is unrelated to being able to connect to the internet, it should have updated at midnight with an entry for the 16th. I suppose it is possible that a problem with ftp could cause problems elsewhere in Cumulus, but I don’t remember it being a problem before. It’s probably wort...
